If you were to ask me a month ago where I would be living in a month, I would never tell you Chicago, Illinois. My best friend comes home from an internship in Florida and says, let's do it, let's move to Chicago together. This comes as no big deal to her since she is a student at DePaul in Chicago. Me on the other hand, whoa! Sure, let's find an apartment, pack up and move in 2 weeks, knowing you've got no job in Chicago. Now if that's not insane, I don't know what is!
I come from a small town, where everyone knows everyone. I graduated high school with 200 people and my mom is the police officer in town. Everyone knows me, I mean EVERYONE. I couldn't go anywhere with my mom without someone knowing her or myself. But now, here I am a month later, living IN Chicago.
This is the biggest leap of faith ever! I graduated college 7 months ago from the University of South Dakota with a Media & Journalism degree. I wasn't having any luck with jobs in Wisconsin, so why not Chicago? There is so much opportunity here and I've made so many amazing connections already! Luckily, I had an interview today, *FINGERS CROSSED*
Growing up, I always loved the big city, now it's my life, holy crap! I've been to Chicago multiple times and love the city! My second day here I got to go boating and watch the sunset over the skyline off of Lake Michigan. As if I didn't love the city already, that was just an icing on the cake. Every day I find something that makes me fall in love with it all over again.
The Montrose Dog Beach is actually my favorite place to go. I have a 3 year old Pitbull Terrier named Rex. Now, Rex is the biggest baby ever, he's such a diva that he won't go outside if it's raining. I took him to the lake and rivers multiple times in Wisconsin and he wouldn't go near them. We get to the dog beach last week and it's as if he's grown up in the water. He LOVES it! I guess Chicago is changing the both of us, for the better! The dog beach is close to my house, so we find ourselves there almost every day!
Today Rex and I took an adventure during our run and ended up at a beautiful harbor overlooking the skyline. It was such an incredible view! But, at the end of our run, somehow we found ourselves at the dog beach....AGAIN! He is absolutely spoiled!
Now let's get started on public transit, hello small town girl who drove her car everywhere she went. No, now you have to buy a ventra and get onto a train and figure out which stop goes where and where it's going to lead you! Oh and let's hope you make sure you get on the train going the right direction. Oh and when you get under ground and need your cell phone for directions, good luck, there's no service. Wake up small town girl, you're in the city now! Oh and if the train can't get you there, the bus can, but good luck figuring out which train leads you where. At first, I was BEYOND lost, now I'm getting used to this public transit thing, it's not as bad as it seems!
Well guys, I'm off to explore River North for ladies night. I'm even entered into a raffle for some amazing prizes. Wish me luck!
Xoxo.
